The Weekly Beat Down: 2013 SLAMMY AWARD Predictions!

Here we are again, on the cusp of another edition of Monday Night RAW. Tonight’s RAW is special though, because it marks the return of the Slammy Awards, the WWE awards ceremony that stretches back to 1986.

So, this week’s Beat Down will focus on the various Slammy Award categories, nominees, and who I think will win each one. Continue reading to find out my picks, and be sure to tune into the Slammy Awards tonight!

Superstar of the Year (award presenter: Shawn Michaels)

  • John Cena
  • Randy Orton
  • CM Punk
  • Daniel Bryan
  • Big Show
  • Brock Lesnar

My pick: Daniel Bryan. He had a stand out year and was the major focus of the main event scene from SummerSlam all the way until just a few weeks ago. When you throw in his time as part of Team Hell No, you get the wrestler of the year.

Diva of the Year (award presenter: Eve Torres)

  • AJ Lee
  • The Bella Twins
  • The Funkadactyls
  • Natalya
  • Kaitlyn
  • Eva Marie

My pick: AJ Lee.  Like Daniel Bryan, she had a stand out year and the divas division has revolved around her through all of 2013. None of the other nominees even came close to her.

Double-Cross of the Year (award presenters: The Shield)

  • Triple H Pedigrees Daniel Bryan allowing Randy Orton to win the WWE Title at SummerSlam
  • Shawn Michaels Superkicks Daniel Bryan at Hell in a Cell
  • Mark Henry feigns retirement before attacking John Cena
  • Paul Heyman betrays CM Punk at WWE Money in the Bank

My pick: Mark Henry feigns retirement before attacking John Cena . This was easily the most unexpected out of the lot. Mark Henry had everyone going with this.

Match of the Year (award presenter: Bret Hart)

  • Undertaker vs. CM Punk (WrestleMania 29)
  • John Cena vs. The Rock (WrestleMania 29)
  • Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs. Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns (Battleground)
  • Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar (Extreme Rules)

My pick: Undertaker vs. CM Punk (Wrestlemania 29). This was an amazing match with huge personal stakes. Punk and Undertaker have great chemistry together.

Insult of the Year (award presenter: The Miz)

  • Stephanie McMahon insults Big Show
  • AJ goes off on “Total Divas”
  • Paul Heyman’s insults toward CM Punk
  • Zeb Colter’s insults

My pick: AJ goes off on “Total Divas.” This was one of the best promos AJ Lee has ever cut. Punk dubbed it the pipe bombshell, and for good reason.

“LOL!” Moment of the Year (award presenters: Road Dogg & Billy Gunn)

  • The Rock Concert at the 20th Anniversary of Raw
  • Vickie Guerrero is fired as Raw GM
  • Titus O’Neill throws up on JBL, Michael Cole, and Zeb Colter on SmackDown
  • The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal try to charm Santino’s cobra on SmackDown

My pick: The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal try to charm Santino’s cobra on SmackDown. This was so stupid, yet I couldn’t help but laugh. Santino is such a funny wrestler.

Extreme Moment of the Year (award presenter: Mick Foley)

  • The Shield triple powerbombs The Undertaker on SmackDown
  • Ryback spears John Cena through the LED Light Board at Extreme Rules
  • Punk exacts vengeance on Paul Heyman at Hell in a Cell
  • The Wyatts crush Kane at SummerSlam

My pick: The Shield triple powerbombs The Undertaker on SmackDown. None of these moments were super extreme. I’m picking the Undertaker though because come on…it’s Taker. It’s not often he gets put in that position.

Fan Participation Award (award presenters: The Prime Time Players)

  • Fandango-ing
  • Yes! Yes! Yes!
  • Let’s go Cena/Cena sucks!
  • What’s up

My pick: Yes! Yes! Yes! Again, Daniel Bryan was on fire this year. His Yes! chant excites the crowd like no other.

There’s also 15 addition categories, which can be viewed here, where the results will be revealed either on WWE.com or on the WWE App rather than on RAW tonight.
